Ingredients

  • 500 grams 500 small potatoes or potato marbles

  • 2 tablespoon 2 olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon 1 black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon 1 salt

  • 1/4 cup 1/4 mozzarella cheese

Directions

  • Set the air fryer to 200°C (400°F) and let it preheat for a few minutes.
  • In a bowl, toss the potato marbles with olive oil, salt and pepper until evenly coated.
  • Place them in the basket in a single layer and air fry for 15–20 minutes, shaking halfway through, until they’re soft enough to press but not fully crisp.
  • Once softened, transfer the potatoes to a flat surface. Gently press each one with the bottom of a glass until lightly flattened.
  • Return the smashed potatoes to the air fryer and cook for another 10–12 minutes or until golden and crispy on the edges.
  • Top each with shredded mozzarella and air fry for another 2–3 minutes — just until the cheese melts beautifully.

Notes

  • Adjust time and temp: Note that air fryer models vary, and some may require or lower or higher cooking times and temperatures. If your bites aren’t browning well, add a couple of minutes.

  • Do not overcrowd: Arrange them in a single layer with enough space in between to allow even airflow.
